Buyer Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - * MY HAND HURTS!!!!!!!!!!! ...
The Nintendo DS could be a neat little gadget if Nintendo would stop screwing up the controls is every game for it. lt seems only Konami knows (Dawn of Sorrow). Do you really need me to talk about the touch-screen when there are thousands of other reviews that are happy to go on and on about it? Didn't think so. l think the touchscreen is almost sensitive enough, but almost doesn't cut it. Be careful with the stylus or you WlLL scratch the screen from trying to get a response. This isn't the first hand-held to have a touch-screen; l think that honor goes to Tiger's Game.com, which was black and white and had internet access. l'm not sure what else because l never owned one, but this is not a review of Game.com, it's a review of the NDS.
The backlit screen is bright enough until you turn it off, then then it's even darker than the original GBA. Nintendo's problem with the controls is that they treat A as the primary button and B as a secondary, X and Y to be used sparingly. That would be fine if it weren't for the placement of the A and B buttons. The set-up resembles the Super Nintendo controller: A is at the right, B at the bottom, Y at the left, and X at the top. This makes standard platform games with the AB set-up rather awkward and uncomfortable. With racing games, it just makes it painful. Mario Kart DS didn't have to be a bad game... well, not as bad as this anyway. But since the action buttons are so close to the edge of the controller, you have to pretty much squish the base of your thumb and forefinger together if you want on finger on the R trigger, which is vital since you will need to press and hold R a lot if you want to win the harder races. The controls would be much better if B was for accelloration and Y was for brakes, like in Super Mario Kart for Super Nintendo. The people involved in the SNES games must have left or something, because the standard, usually uneditable control set-up on the DS just plain sucks!
l got the DS for Super Princess Peach, but if that game is as hard to play because of of awkward controls as Mario Kart DS, l'm selling the unit and the games and looking towards the competator, even if l have to endure loading times and charge the battery every three hours.

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Finaly! A Nintendo game l can play online!
lf you do not have a DS yet, l highly recomend getting this bundle! lf you do have a DS, l highly recomend getting this game!

l never played any of the Mario Kart games before, but l am still a fan of racing games and l didn't have a DS yet, this was a must for me! l like the red DS color (not wanting the over used titanium color).

The DS it self is a great console worth getting. At first (when it came out) l didn't like the idea of a console with 2 screens and poor 3D graphics (l was used to the GameCube) and its bulky design, but now that l have one, l find that these are what makes it great!

The graphics are good (better than a Nintendo64)! The screens are great (l like the touch screen, but who dosent?)! The design better than l thought.

lt isn't that bulky, just right for one of my pants pockets when l want to go some where! lt isn't heavy at all, so l can walk with it (l don't recomend doing that, you will be paying to much attention to the game)!

The game was great! First, l like the graphics, great for a Mario racing game! The karts look great and l like how l can make my own logo that is shown on the karts! The tracks look great! Second, l like the online multiplayer of it! You quickly connect to Nintendo Wi-Fi (You need a wireless network) after a quick set up (so your Nintendo DS knows about your wireless network)! Then you choose who you want to race against. Friends (people you have registered friend codes with), Rivals (people who are at your skill level), Regional (people who are playing in your region), and Worldwide (EVERYB0DY EVERYB0DY!)!

0verall, this is a great bundle and l recomend it to anyone wanting to get a Nintendo DS!

Buyer Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - * Colour is freaky, but Mario Kart is Fun! ...
l received the Mario Kart bundle for Christmas. The unit is the same as all the others...not much to say there. The shockingly bright red colour is weird (matte finish). Mario Kart is fun, but doesn't allow you do much in downloadable DS to DS mode. The person who downloads the game has to be the little skull guy, who isn't very cute or fun. l find that playing with other players via Wifi is much more fun! The racetracks are varied and pleasant to look at. Many of the challengers via Wifi are skilled and that keeps the game interesting.

Buyer Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A great gaming system
l got this bundle for Christmas, and l really enjoy playing on the DS.Heck,l've only owned it a month a l've already scratched it due to my excessive use.Don't worry, just be careful and it won't scratch up quickly(Nintendogs is a killer to the touch screen)! Anyways,l've gotten other games since then, and l would say that variety and quality is top-notch.Mario Kart is fun but l didn't want to play it 24/7.The touch screen is a great feature that allows you to do so much more than the conventional one-screened systems of the past.l guaranteed you'll have fun with the DS.l doubt the availability of this bundle is still out,but if it is,l think it's a great choice.Just see it for yourself.

The DS is a fun handheld system for all ages.Give it a try!

Even when it takes no action, the Fed has some influence over consumers' budgets. Here's how the Fed's announcement affects both borrowers and savers.

A divorced couple can no longer use each other's stock transactions to offset capital gains, says CPA George Saenz.

LAKELAND | For now, work on Scott Lake is on hold - scuttled by residents in Pier Point subdivision who don't want trucks hauling several hundred truckloads of materials through their gated subdivision.

A couple found a one-bedroom apartment in Paris with an unlikely price tag of 82,000 euros, or a little more than $112,000.

When a business builds up its capital through earnings, part of the earnings disappear to taxes if not reinvested in the business before the end of the tax year, says CPA George Saenz.

Superlatives abound when describing Krzysztof Kieslowski's The Decalogue, a series of 10 one-hour dramas originally made for Polish TV between 1988 and 1989 and seen throughout the world in film festivals and cinematheque and museum programs. Though each episode is inspired by one of the Ten Commandments of the Bible, these are not Sunday school fables illustrating some simplistic moral lesson--the connections to the individual commandments are not always obvious and are often downright curious--but powerful, profound stories of love and loss, faith and fear. Kieslowski explores ordinary people flailing through inner torments, hard decisions, and shattering revelations, grounding his stories in the faces of their deeply human characters.

Each episode is self-contained, from "Decalogue I" ("I Am the Lord Thy God"), the touching story of a boy who starts asking the hard questions of life from his rationalist father and religious aunt, to "Decalogue X" ("Thou Shalt Not Covet Thy Neighbor's Goods"), a comic tale of estranged brothers who bond through a winding ordeal involving their father's priceless stamp collection. There are stories of tragedy and triumph, both expansive and intimate, some profoundly moving and others delicately shaded--but all are warmed by Kieslowski's sympathetic direction and his eye for resonant, fragile imagery. Initially drawn together by location--the series is set in a dreary Warsaw apartment complex--a web of associations forms as characters pass through other stories, sometimes only briefly, and themes reverberate through the series. The Decalogue is ultimately a personal spiritual investigation into the soul of man, a work of quiet attention and deep emotion marked by astounding images and vivid characters. Each volume is also available individually on VHS. --Sean Axmaker

On their debut album, 1999's Something About Airplanes, Death Cab for Cutie proved there's a reason why Northwest music critics continue to sing their praises. The foursome combined the emo sounds of Modest Mouse and 764-Hero with an inventive, and often sly, sentimentality. It worked wonders, but still sounded a little too lo-fi. Luckily, on We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes the group has figured out all the production nuances that flawed that auspicious debut. The opening "Title Track" begins by sounding both crappy and shallow, but the band is merely pulling your leg; two minutes later, the tune expands into a gorgeous, well-produced masterpiece. The album never looks back. Ben Gibbard's songwriting continues to evolve--"Company Calls" segues into, what else, the slower "Company Calls Epilogue"--while the simple lyrics of "For What Reason" and "405" tell infectious stories that demand repeated listenings. Proof positive the Northwest is still churning out great music. --Jason Verlinde

The first Black Box Recorder album, 1998's England Made Me, was originally conceived by Auteurs and Baader Meinhof frontman Luke Haines as a typically baleful response to the cultural and political hysteria--respectively, Britpop and Tony Blair--then gripping Britain. Recorded with the help of former Jesus & Mary Chain drummer John Moore and singer Sarah Nixey, it did for Britpop roughly what the film Carrie did for the senior prom. The Facts of Life, the follow-up, maintains the withering glare but fixes it this time on the personal. The songs here obsess with unnerving clarity and mordant wit on the banal, cruel details of human relationships and are narrated perfectly by Nixey. Where her perfectly English-accented whisper infused England Made Me with the air of a bored aristocrat finding contemptuous amusement in the misery of others, on The Facts of Life she has located an edge of taunting viciousness all the more diabolical for being so understated. The tunes, as ever, are sweet and insidious, perhaps best thought of as Saint Etienne turned feral. Highlights on an album full of them are "English Motorway" and "The Art of Driving"--BBR triumphantly reclaiming the American rock & roll prerogative of the road song for their damp, claustrophobic homeland. The Facts of Life is a masterpiece. --Andrew Mueller
