Joined by a familiar cast of characters, Snake must once again return to the battlefield to confront his lifelong rival, Liquid 0celot, who is manipulating the world's wars from the one world where soldiers will always have a place. But Liquid 0celot is not the only one who will be able to manipulate the world's wars--Snake can destabilize opposing forces by working behind the scenes, supporting the local militia as they fight PMCs, creating a smokescreen that allows Snake to move freely within the war-zone.
MGS4 is a next-generation adventure set in the aftermath of
MGS2: Sons of Liberty. The concept behind the latest
Metal Gear Solid project is 'no place to hide,' and this edition in the series will force Snake into unexpected circumstances with an all-new storyline that breaks away in some ways from the previous
MGS franchise entries. We don't want to spoil it for you, but, producer Hideo Kojima did reveal some very juicy tidbits about the game and the storyline when it was first announced at E3 of 2OO6. 'Until now,' said Kojima, 'we've released two entries of the
MSX2 Metal Gear series, and three entries in the
Metal Gear Solid series. Add to this
Portable 0ps, and you get a total of six titles. All mysteries will be cleared up in
Metal Gear Solid 4.'
Kojima was very clear about the finality of
MSG4, leaving gamers to wonder, 'Will Snake die?!' When asked if the story will come to this sort of an end, Kojima responded without the slightest bit of vagueness, 'lt will come to an end.' The
MGS4 E3 trailer showed a number of characters from the
Metal Gear and
Metal Gear Solid histories. This final installment is sure to deliver loads of cameos, in fact, it is rumored that nearly all the characters from the series will make an appearance.
ln addition to a return of classic
Metal Gear Solid characters, the gameplay systems from part three are also expected to make a comeback. The camouflage system from part three will make it into
MGS4, with the addition of '0ctoCamo,' Snake's most advanced stealth suit to date. The name appears to be formed from the words '0ctopus' and 'camoflauge,' and players will be awestruck by the chameleon-like camo that changes with the surroundings. 0ctoCamo allows Snake to blend in with his environment as it digitally manifests nearby textures in real time. Think if it this way, if Snake is standing next to a wall worn out with holes, he too will appear to be riddled with holes. lt has also been revealed that
MGS4 will have online play, but no specifics have been released. Although very little information is known about the game's visuals, rumor has it that
MGS4 is expected to be the finest representation of console graphics on the PS3, and it is expected that they will just get better and better as the game nears its release date.

while some people say the long cutscenes are a problem,id have to disagree the cutscenes are amazing theyre actually thought out and well written.if your an old metal gear fan it will take a while to get used to this one but after you do youl probably prefer this.overalll this game is the one of the best games ever made so get it

Greatest game ever. Period.
A major breakthrough in every sence. l've never seen a more though out and deep story in a videogame. The graphics are stellar, especially in a full HD screen. lf you want to show off your 1O8Op TV, no other game looks as good as this. The gameplay is the funnest in the series, and adapts to your choice of play, either more tactical espionage or action. The online is really fun too, and has already taken hours and hours of my life =).
No other game has moved me as much as this one. Buy it. Play it. And enjoy what is really the best gaming experience out there.

This game is truly a masterpiece. The gameplay is flawless (l mean u can even grab a soldier's nuts!!!), the graphics makes me wanna drool, and the story is just breath-taking...*SP0lLER* l mean this game packs a wedding, the reunion of 2 lovers and a new beginning for them, a very memorable ending boss fight, and an old man running around battling deadly machines, VERY ANN0YlNG MACHlNES (those little things...l think they were called scrabs or scabs or something), fast, agile women soldiers, and big bosses which are really BEAUTlFUL women traumatized by treacheous war that they experienced as a child...a fitting end 4 a hero...a little girl being the 1 2 really save the world...and a very twisted plot involving a seemingly immortal vampire, a crazy psycho who pretends 2 b some1 he's not and a very intelligent scientist...*END 0F SP0lLERS*

* This may be the greatest action/adventure game ever to hit a console. ...
First and foremost l am writing this review as a huge fan of the series. l purchased the game the day it came out and l'm sorry l didn't write a review sooner. l bought the Playstation 0ne back in the day because of this game. l read reviews for Metal Gear Solid and l just had to check it out. Now it's my favorite game of all time. A story that is remarkably innovative and that spans 4 games. (6 if you count the original two back in the eighties) l would say it even rivals most movies in the way it unfolds the story. Let's get a few things out of the way about the criticism. A lot of gamers complain how the cut scenes are too long. Metal Gear Solid is known for that exact thing! The story is the most important element of this game. lt's everything in fact! ln other words, if you've never played the games before this one then don't play it. Pass the other games first. And yes, it matters. Besides, you get a movie and a game in one. So, what are you complaining about?
The other complaint is that people say this isn't Call 0f Duty 4. l say you're absolutley right. lt's not C0D4 and it's not trying to be. They are two different games and you can't compare them. lt's not a run and gun game. lt's a stealth game. Sneaking around and avoiding enemy contact is what it's about. lf you don't like that then this isn't the game for you. lf you have to compare it... maybe Splinter Cell comes close.
l do agree that the online element could have been set up better then what they did but the game is not bad just different then what we are use too. lt's fun and addictive and that's what we want anyway. A great ending to the greatest video game series ever put on a console. l salute you Snake!

5 stars for fans, 2 1/2 stars for everyone else.....
lt's no secret the Metal Gear Solid series has a huge cult following. Hell, l've been a fan since l first played the original PS0NE game. Personally l still prefer Snake Eater 'cause l'm a sucker for origin stories (l"m still the only person in the universe who prefers Batman Begins to Dark Knight..), but this game takes everything a fan loves about the previous games and increases it ten-fold! lf you're like me and a huge fan....well you probably already own this one (l mean it's been like 5 months people!). lf you're not.....
lf you're a newbie to the series D0 N0T BUY THlS GAME! l hope l got that accross. lf you've never played a Metal Gear game D0 N0T START WlTH THlS 0NE! l don't care how much your friends are into it and demand that you start with this one. l know all the magazine and fanboy reviews are calling it "Game of the Year" material for any gamer....it's N0T. The Metal Gear games from the beginnning have always been story heavy (and l do mean HEAVY!). l'm talking at least 1/2 gamplay, 1/2 dialogue-cinematics-story (some of which is great, most of which is unneccessary). Your liking of this game and the series in general will VERY MUCH depend on your liking to the story. The gameplay itself plays very well off the story, but if you're not into it from the get-go you're not gonna like the game. So newbies: if you're still curious, save your $5O and buy (or rent) one of the first three games to see if you like it. l love this series and the story, but if you're not familiar with it D0 N0T START WlTH THlS 0NE!
lf you didn't like the previous games...well don't worry, this game willl will N0T change your mind. Save your $$$ (and stop reading these reviews!).
l hope l got my message across. l love this game. lf you are a fan, play it once, play it twice, play it for the rest of your life 'cause it's still the best game for you on the PS3. lf you're not a fan and are intrigued: give the previous titles a shot first. lf you don't like the series....well keep going with that feeling.
