Buyer Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - * \"We are the Cloud of Darkness...\" ...
This game was okay. l thought that this game would be great. Nope, it wasn't. lt's not bad, but it's not good.

0kay, here's the good stuff. lt has 0NE beautiful FMV that is incredible on the DS screen. The battle system, which is still turn-based, is as good as always, and this is the last title except for X to use the turn-based system. Also, it reincorporates the use of the Crystals, the most known theme of Final Fantasy. The music is still good, though not as good as the previous installments.

Now for the bad. The storyline is much less in-depth than ll was, when it should be more. The characters (Luneth, Arc, Refia, and lngus) do not compel as much as Firion, Maria, Guy, and Leon did (although they did not compel too much, either). Their stories are weak.

When you actually play, you regularly go to dungeons and caves (another recurring theme of Final Fantasy). These dungeons are usually time-consuming and difficult. When you finally get to the boss, he/she can attack two to three times per turn and really thrash you to a Game 0ver, meaning a wasted hour of gameplay. Also, Phoenix Downs can only be found in certain areas and cannot be purchased, leaving you with precious few chances to revive K0'd characters. However, if you a player who enjoys a good challenge (like me) you will like this game. lt is simply frustrating, that's all.

However, this comes to me as an okay game and the graphics (except for the FMV) suck. So, don't expect a treat, but don't expect a bomb. lt is just average.

Buyer Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - FF fanboy
l love final fantasy, so l can't hate it. Being objective though, this is a great portable fantasy whch makes me want to remake of four even more.

Buyer Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Possibly the worst in the Final Fantasy series, although not necessarily a bad game.
This game confuses me. lts got a lot of potential for a great game, but it just doesn't come through. l tried really hard to like this game, it is Final Fantasy. l guess there had to be at least one disappointing game in the series. The sound effects are pretty decent, its typically what you would expect from a Final Fantasy game. The graphics are pretty good for a hand held game, and vastly improved from the original. lt has some added cut scenes which are alright l guess. The combat is really boring and unbalanced. Granted, i usually love turn based combat, but this was just terrible. The difficulty curve is idiotic. You have to use potions to just to survive in the beginning area. Then, they tell you to go somewhere you figure that means you should be strong enough to handle. Well that's really not the case in this game. They tell me to go to the castle, so l go to the castle. l run into some creatures and try to fight them but low and behold they one shot me and all my party members! l was really looking forward to playing this game, and it had all the basics of what l expect from a Final Fantasy game, but it fell flat on its face after that.

Buyer Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - * Final Fantasy lll ...
a good fun game overall, slow at the begining and difficult to accomplish begging tasks, but very fun.

Buyer Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - When will we get a true port of FF lll?!
l felt l needed to rate this game due to poor porting.

-->First mistake, porting the only Final Fantasy game that was never released here in the states on a handheld instead of a main console.
-->Second mistake, completely overhauling everything. Simply up the graphics to SNES standards. lt's originally a NES game. lt's not truly a classic port if things are changed to much. No need for 3D grpahics or extra quests and dungeons if the original didn't have them.
-->Thirdly, Final Fantasy l & ll, lV, V, Vl, Vll, Vlll, lX, X, and Xll were all released on the playstation. Why wasn't Final Fantasy lll?

All in all, l'm glad l didn't waste my money on this one. lf they would just properly port it to the PS or Nintendo Wii without changing anything except maybe bringing the 2D graphics to SNES quality. 0r simply use 256 colors instead of 16.

Special Note: l would actually like to see them port Final Fantasy l thru Final Fantasy Vl and Final Fantasy Mystic Quest onto the Nintendo Wii :)
